The Celtics battled through injuries to Jayson Tatum, Marcus Smart, and Robert Williams in the second half to defeat the Raptors 106-104 and earn their ninth straight victory. Toronto’s 20-27 record is marked by poor shooting; they’re 28th in the league at three-point shooting percentage (and were without Fred Van Vleet) and subsequently, only average 23.1 assists per game. However, the Raptors are big across the board with Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, and Scottie Barnes filling out their wing rotation. The Raptors outscored the Celtics in the paint 54-to-36 and blocked 10 shots. The Raptors’ weaknesses, however, are the Celtics’…

After electing to sit every starter except one during Friday’s 120-114 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr came under fire. Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Stephen Curry were all out against the Cavaliers, leaving Kevon Looney as the lone starter. However, Dubs supporters will be relieved to see that their injury list for Saturday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets is much cleaner. Curry, Green, Thompson, and Wiggins have all been removed from the official injury list ahead of Saturday’s contest. This only means that the Dubs will be healthy — at least for…

Archaeologists have revealed a complex of hidden passageways and galleries deep inside the ancient Chavín de Huántar temple complex in the Peruvian Andes. The researchers think the network of chambers and galleries was used in religious rituals, possibly involving psychedelic drugs. It’s the first time in about 3,000 years that these particular hidden structures have been explored; some of the dark and isolated chambers may have been used for sensory deprivation, while some of the larger galleries seem to have been used for the worship of idols, said John Rick, a Stanford University archaeologist who is leading the research. “These…

The figures have risen since Kenya c.rac.ked down on p.oa.ching by organized cri.me networks. Poa.chi.ng is not a sport. It is an environmental crime that poses a major threat to animal populations. Kenya’s use of tracking, forensic science, and improved prosecutions has now led to a significant reduction in poa.chi.ng. The report shows an increase in the numbers of elephants, rhinos, lions, giraffes, Grévy zebras, and hirola (hunting antelopes) – a 12% increase since the last figures were recorded in…

Non-scientific versions of the answer have invoked many gods and have been the basis of all religions and most philosophy since the beginning of recorded time. Now a team of mathematicians from Canada and Egypt have used cutting edge scientific theory and a mind-boggling set of equations to work out what preceded the universe in which we live. In (very) simple terms they applied the theories of the very small – the world of quantum mechanics – to the whole universe – explained  by general theory of relativity, and discovered the universe basically goes though four different phases. Ladies and gentlemen, the award for best invertebrate mimicry goes to Hemeroplanes triptolemus for its masterful impersonation of a venomous snake! Native to the rainforests of the Amazon, the snake mimic caterpillar turns into a rather unimpressive moth in the family Sphingidae, but in its larval stage it incorporates an astonishing survival tactic. It needs one too, as without a good defence system in place, sphinx moth caterpillars are essentially energy-rich ‘nom-nuggets’ presented on a bed of leafy greens for the jungle’s predators. To avoid that fate, the larva of this moth expands and exposes its underside to mimic a snake’s head with…
