Bernardo Silva has admitted that he is keen on starting a ‘new project’ away from Manchester City.
Silva joined City from Monaco in 2017 and has since won four league titles under Pep Guardiola.
However, he was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer, and he remains interested in trying his luck at a different club, hinting that he could make a big decision on his future in the summer.
Bernardo Silva has hinted that he could look to leave Manchester City in the summer
Silva has won four league titles since joining City from Monaco in the summer of 2017
‘I’m very focused on this season and it doesn’t make sense to talk about leaving because we’re in the middle of the season,’ Silva told Portuguese outlet Record.
‘I’m 28 years old, I’ll be 29 in the summer, and I have two more years on my Manchester City contract. My contract would end at 31.
‘I won’t hide that my goal in the coming years, if something good happens elsewhere, will probably be to move to a new project.’
PSG were also tracking Silva during the summer transfer window, before the Portuguese international eventually decided to stay at City.
Yet Silva has revealed that he has a another club on his mind – his boyhood team Benfica.
Silva started off at Benfica, and has admitted he regularly thinks about returning to the club
He came through the ranks at Benfica making a permanent switch to Monaco in 2015, having spent the previous season on loan at the Ligue 1 club.
Silva has suggested that he is unsure where he will be playing next season, but he still thinks constantly about returning to Benfica before his playing days are over.
‘Going into a new project at the age of 29, I’ll only finish this contract probably at 34. If you ask me: what did you think 10 years ago? My goal was to return to Benfica at the age of 32 at the most. What do I think today? It depends on what happens next summer.
‘I’m not going to lie: it’s not something I don’t think about. I think about it every year. It has always been a goal.’
