Liverpool star slated after performance in 3-1 defeat Brentford, fans can’t believe his decline

Liverpool fans laid into Fabinho after an abject performance in the 3-1 defeat to Brentford.

The Reds had won their first Premier League games back since the restart but were well below par at the Gtech Stadium.

Brentford, without talisman Ivan Toney through injury, found themselves 2-0 up at half-time courtesy of an own goal from Ibrahima Konate and a Yoane Wissa header.

The hosts battered Liverpool with set-pieces and crosses, with two goals disallowed for offside.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled one back in the second half but Bryan Mbeumo punished Konate for a third late on as Liverpool started 2023 abysmally.

An angry Jurgen Klopp made three changes at half-time after the horror show, with Virgil van Dijk, Kostas Tsimikas and Harvey Elliott all coming off.

Fabinho lasted the full 90 minutes but fans were in disbelief as to how he did. The Brazilian midfielder has been one of the best in his position for the last few years but he might just be entering a decline, looking off the pace of late.

One fan said: “What’s happened to Fabinho man. Been awful.”

A second wrote: “Fabinho has no composure on the ball.”

A third added: “Fabinho has been really poor this season.”

A fourth opined: “Fabinho really has dropped off so hard.”

A fifth commented: “Fabinho trying to turn with the ball is the funniest thing in football.”

Another claimed: “Fabinho is worse than Mctominay.”

A seventh didn’t hold back, stating: “Fabinho is the worst defensive midfielder I have ever seen.”

And a final comment read: “How did Fabinho become so useless in this team?”

Next up for Liverpool is an FA Cup clash with Wolves on Saturday, before they travel to Brighton the following week.

Klopp’s side sit in sixth position, four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United having played a game more.

Brentford, meanwhile, are just two points off Liverpool after another impressive victory in what is shaping up to be a memorable season.
