Things were looking a bit bleak for the Memphis Grizzlies as they entered Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
They were down 3-1 in the opening round and one more loss would have put an end to their season.
But they didn’t let that happen and found victory, partly because of the strong work of Ja Morant.
Morant scored 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists in Game 5 and now leads the Grizzlies all-time in 30-point playoff games.
There was no doubt that Morant would burst onto the court in a big way, but people weren’t sure if that would be enough to stop LeBron James and his Lakers.
Throughout the game, it felt like Morant couldn’t miss and he didn’t seem at all bothered by the recent hand injury that sidelined him.
The hometown crowd definitely helped the Grizzlies get into the zone and every single basket that Morant sank was met by a huge response from the fans.
The series is now 3-2 which means the Grizzlies aren’t out of the woods yet.
The next game will take place in Los Angeles on Friday night.
Morant can be sure that the crowd there will rival the one in Memphis.
Additionally, James will attempt to bounce back after a lackluster showing on Wednesday night.
If Morant continues to play like this, he will give his team a strong chance of securing a win in Game 6.
If that happens, the Grizzlies would return home for Game 7 and that could lead to them putting down the Lakers and moving on to the semifinals.
