Tom Holland has a famous dad – but not many people know about him.
That’s right, your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man isn’t the first of his family to venture into showbiz – it seems as if getting onstage runs in his family.
In fact, Dominic Holland, a comedian and actor, is Tom’s dad, and has even written a book about Tom’s success overtaking his own.
Titled, Eclipsed, the book will be released on audio at the end of this month.
“How does a kid called Tom Holland, who never had a speaking part in a school play find himself playing Marvel’s Peter Parker?” The bio reads.
“A series of happy coincidences and serendipitous events is the answer. A fluke, then? Yes, but not exactly, given that huge amounts of commitment and hard work have been required.
“Eclipsed is the unlikely but true story of an ordinary family, muddling on through life without much of a plan and dealing with circumstances that confound normal expectations. Written by a dad who as a professional comedian took his own shot at show-biz stardom and called Eclipsed because his carefully honed plans didn’t work out so well.”
Tom began his career as a dancer, starting this hobby at the age of nine at a dance school in Wimbledon. The actor rose to fame after a stint on the West End, starring in Billy Elliot the Musical as a child in 2008.
He then transitioned into the film industry, when he starred in the disaster drama The Impossible, where his performance of a tourist trapped in a tsunami earned him a London Film Critics Circle Award for the Young British Performer of the Year.
And many fans had no idea that the Spider-Man star’s dad is also famous, with one writing on Twitter: “Woah. I just learnt that Dominic Holland is Tom Holland’s dad. They look so similar too, and I never put the two together.”
While another added: “Wait, Tom Holland’s dad is the comedian Dominic Holland? That is mad.”
And a third said: “I was yesterday years old when I learned that Spiderman Tom Holland is the son of 90s comedy and TV production chap Dominic Holland.”
Tom, 26, was forced to deny rumours he’s about to become a dad last week, when girlfriend Zendaya spoke out after a viral TikTok falsely claimed she was pregnant.
Taking to Instagram, the Spider-Man star, wrote: “See now, this is why I stay off Twitter…” before adding: “Just making stuff up for no reason…weekly.”
The false rumour implied that Zendaya was pregnant with Tom’s child, and while the end of the video implied it was a prank, it didn’t stop some fans from believing it.
