Boxing fans were stunned when Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Snr crossed paths at the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight. In a surprising turn of events, McGregor expressed his desire to collaborate with Mayweather Snr in the future, despite the boxing legend’s past threats towards him. The friendly exchange between the two marked a potential reconciliation and left fans speculating about what the future may hold.
The pair came across each other inside the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night as they were both in attendance when Gervonta Davis knocked out Ryan Garcia.
The Irishman infamously lost to Mayweather Jnr in 2017 in what turned out to be the American’s final ever official boxing fight, with McGregor clashing with the Mayweather family on several occasions.
However, all seemed to be forgiven with Mayweather Snr – who was a successful boxer from 1973-1990, before enjoying an impressive career as a trainer which included coaching his son – having a friendly exchange with McGregor.
McGregor could be heard saying: ‘You’re the reason [for Floyd Mayweather Jr’s success]. I’d love to do work with you someday if we can.’

Mayweather Jnr and McGregor fought back in 2017, with the American winning comfortably
It is a far cry from their clashes before and after his fight with five-weight world champion Mayweather Jnr.
In 2017, the Mayweather Snr had predicted his son would have an easy night against McGregor in what became a comfortable win via a 10th-round stoppage.
He had said: ‘Even if it goes the distance, [Floyd] is going to whoop his a***. That’s what’s going to happen. Anyway, he wants to do it, [McGregor] is gonna get whooped.
‘Ain’t nobody gonna say I’m wrong because they know he’s going to get whooped anyway.
‘There are a few things that I want to do and things that Floyd can do. We’re going to be able to touch him up real good.’
A year later, McGregor was invited to Mayweather’s Las Vegas boxing club for training – an offer the Irishman flatly refused.

He had said: ‘F*** the Mayweathers, except Senior and Roger. There is no peace here kid. Step up or step down.’
Similarly, in 2019, Mayweather Snr called out McGregor after he was filmed hitting an older man in a pub in Dublin.
The American said: ‘I’d beat the s*** out of Conor. I would beat the s*** out of Conor right now. I’m double his age and I’d whoop is a***.’
But now, the bad blood seems to have dissipated with McGregor preparing to make his MMA comeback after being out injured since July 2021 – and it looks as if the 34-year-old may get help from an old foe in the future.
