It’s been five years since Johnny Depp and co entranced audiences in Tim Burton’s big screen adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.
And now the first trailer for the anticipated sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass has been released.
Johnny, Burton’s favourite leading man, is back as the Mad Hatter, while Anne Hathaway returns as the White Queen and Alice is again played by Mia Wasikowska, alongside an all-star support cast playing Lewis Carroll’s beloved characters.

The trailer for the follow-up opens with a warning to Alice that she must return to Underland to save her friend the Mad Hatter.
‘You’ve been gone too long Alice. There are matters which might benefit from your attention. Friends cannot be neglected. Hurry,’ the voice declares.
Stephen Fry’s voice as the Cheshire Cat then chimes in with a timely rhyme about Alice’s quest and her meeting with Sacha Baron Cohen’s new character, Time.

Since fans last saw her, Alice Kingsleigh has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas.
The new film follows her return to London, where she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland and her friends including the Mad Hatter, who is not himself.
The Hatter has lost his Muchness, so Mirana (Hathaway) sends Alice on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock which powers all time.

The Muppets’ James Bobin takes over directing duties from Burton, who has a producer’s credit for the anticipated sequel to his 2010 film, which is the filmmaker’s highest-grossing movie to date, taking a massive $1.025 billion worldwide, which also earns it the title of being the nineteenth highest-grossing film of all time.
As well as its box office success, Alice in Wonderland won Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design at the 2011 Oscars, and was also nominated for Best Visual Effects.

Through the Looking Glass, which will hit cinemas next May, also features the voices of Alan Rickman as Blue Caterpillar, Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit and Timothy Spall as Bayard.
Alongside Cohen’s Time, fans will be introduced to several other new characters including the Mad Hatter’s father Zanik Hightopp, played by Rhys Ifans.
