Manchester United are officially up for sale. The Glazer family announced in a statement on the club’s website that they were seeking ‘alternative strategies’ for investment which included selling the club to new owners.

The question is who will buy United? There has already been a lot of interest, with the Manchester Evening News understanding that tech giants Apple and also Zara founder Amancio Ortega have both enquired about becoming the club’s new owners.

But another name who is ready to throw his hat into the ring, even if it is in a minor capacity, is David Beckham. The former United midfielder currently is co-owner of Inter Miami in the MLS but according to reports he would be open to the idea of joining a consortium.

David Beckham involvement in takeover will mean little without investment, say Manchester United fans

Beckham, who spent at decade at the club and made 394 first team appearances, has spoken before on what needed to change at United earlier this year ahead of the appointment of Erik ten Hag.

He told Sky Sports in May: “I think there are changes to be made and changes that are happening, we’ve seen that. It’s been a tough end to the season. But it is the end of the season, I’m sure a lot of the fans are thankful for that because it’s been a tough one – full of ups and downs.

“The players have done what they can do best, so has the manager as well. I turned up at the stadium a few months back and every seat was filled so the fans still believe, they support, they turn up for the team.

“It’s what United fans do. There’s not many other teams to have gone through what they’ve gone through in the last few years and still filling out their stadium. So that says a lot about the fans. There will be changes.”

Of course, top of the list of priorities for any new owner will be to get United performing on the field and winning trophies again, but there is also the refurbishment or rebuilding of Old Trafford and renewal of training facilities to consider.

We will have to see what the future of United’s ownership holds.
