Salah breaks Liverpool legend’s unique record in 6-1 demolition job on Leeds

Mohamed Salah broke Robbie Fowler’s record for most left-footed goals scored in the Premier League on Monday night.

The Egypt international struck twice as Liverpool snapped their five-game winless run with a 6-1 victory at Leeds.

Salah smashed a left-footed finish into the top corner from the left edge of the penalty area as he doubled Liverpool’s lead in the first half.

It was his 106th in the Premier League with his left foot, overtaking former Liverpool striker Fowler.

The 30-year-old had an effort ruled out for offside after a VAR check before Liverpool put the result beyond doubt in the 64th minute.

Andrew Robertson’s cross was helped on by Cody Gakpo and the unmarked Salah converted his 15th league goal of the season at the far post.

Salah now has nine goals in six league matches against Leeds, a joint Liverpool record with Gordon Hodgson.

Boss Jurgen Klopp described it as ‘the best game we’ve played this season’.

The German said: ‘I think we forced a lot of errors but it was a really good game, sensational goals and counter-pressing, it was the best game for a long time. Really happy with that game.’

Salah’s nearest challenger is now Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez, who has scored 65 goals with his left foot.

The other players in the top 10 list have either retired or have left the Premier League.

It comes after Salah confirmed himself as Liverpool’s greatest scorer of the modern era in March against Manchester United.

He eclipsed another record Fowler had held for 16 years by scoring two which saw his total reach 129 Premier League goals.
