A man is thankful to be alive after a chilling encounter with a shark. The shark, he says, saved his life.
According to the Washington Post, Finney was swimming off the coast of Huntington Beach in California in 2015 when a shark showed up from behind and slammed right into him.
He told the Washington Article, “I would certainly claim it’s like being hit by a ton of bricks, or like whiplash from a vehicle, but it’s not that. I’ve never ever been hit like that before.”
It wasn’t until he got out of the water that individuals noticed the blood appearing of Finney’s back, the Daily Star reported. He had a 12-inch cut running down his back, however he wasn’t certain what had actually caused it.
After reports started coming in of a fantastic white shark in the area, Finney started to place things together.
The Washington Post reports that the pain and possible injuries Finnley received from the shark hitting him sent him to the emergency room and it’s a good thing since that journey to the emergency room ended up saving his life.
During a CAT check to look for injuries, the doctor discovered a cancerous tumor on Finnley’s right kidney. It was small enough and captured early enough that the doctor believed Finnley can recover.
Finnley credits the shark event as “a sign from Nature” to seek help from the hospital. If he hadn’t gone to the emergency room, they never would’ve found the cancer. It’s likely that the cancerous tumor would certainly’ve stayed undetected until it started spreading sufficient for symptoms to show up and then, it could’ve been too late.
“I would certainly have begun losing weight and getting sick and then it would have been too late. If I could find this shark and provide it a hug, I would certainly,” he told the Washington Post.
