A mother bear and her cubs were trying to cross a road in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. One of the cubs was too weak to keep up, so the mother had to leave it behind. Fortunately, a police officer from the Town of Carroll Police Department was there to help.
The officer noticed the mother pacing back and forth on the road and realized that she was trying to retrieve the weak cub. After doing some bear traffic control, the officer had to take the cub in for Fish and Game to be rehabilitated.
The department later explained that the mother had five cubs, but two of them were too weak to survive on their own. The other three cubs were healthy and would be cared for by their mother. The two weak cubs would be rehabilitated and returned to the wild when they were stronger.
The incident was captured on video by Jane Langmaid, who was impressed by the officer’s compassion and dedication to helping the bears. She cautioned viewers never to pick up or handle wild animals and to contact their local PD or Fish and Game for assistance.
