Marvel is yet to leave its past behind and it becomes increasingly more apparent with every project that comes out. From Far From Home to Hawkeye to Secret Invasion – the MCU keeps tracing a path back to the past, to the battles that were fought across the galaxy from the very beginning, the heroes who laid down their lives in the end, and the tragedies that occurred in the interim. The upcoming Disney+ series, too, brings back one old foe from the Infinity Saga era and the possibilities are endless.

Secret Invasion Brings Back the Children of Thanos
The essence of MCU’s Secret Invasion narrative is the rogue batch of Skrulls trying to take control of Earth. And like every other action thriller, there is going to be an epic proportion of havoc and destruction left in the wake. To make matters worse, however, an object from the past finds its way back to the present although how useful it will be in the plot’s progression remains to be seen.

In Infinity War, before Thanos and the superheroes from all over the galaxy converge at Wakanda, Ebony Maw, and Cull Obsidian brings news as messengers from Thanos about their impending doom. New York is almost laid to waste in the ensuing fight that occurs between Cull, Maw, and the few Avengers present to receive them upon arrival, and although all parties involved get out of the fight unscathed (mostly), Cull’s arm is severed in the process which is later taken into custody by the Department of Damage Control.
It is this severed part of Cull Obsidian’s arm that can be seen in the new Secret Invasion trailer but its purpose remains an issue needing further scrutiny and dissection.
Cull Obsidian’s Role in the Skrull Invasion in MCU
Cull Obsidian, the Black Dwarf, is one of Thanos’ most powerful children and in terms of brute strength, sheer size, and force, the master wielder of weapons remains unmatched in his skill to take down anything that stands in his father’s path. And given how Thanos rescued the orphan boy from an alien world – one that was destroyed by the Mad Titan – the extent of power that resides in his body should be enormous.

Notwithstanding the superhuman strength and durability he was born with, Thanos’ known use of technology (to transform and make his soldiers more efficient to later wield them to his advantage) could have Cull Obsidian imbued with some form of alien technology in the MCU and the arm that now lies in the Department of Damage Control’s possession could easily help Nick Fury build more xenotech weapons in his fight against the invaders.
Secret Invasion launches on Disney+ on June 21, 2023.
