Erik ten Hag is willing to sell seven Manchester United stars this summer to fund moves for a central striker and a central midfielder.
United spent £220m last summer, which was nearly £100m more than the club had budgeted for.
Though United look set to finish in the top four and are on course for a successful season, finances are tight and the club are wary of complying with Financial Fair Play rules.
It leaves little wriggle room for United but Ten Hag’s rebuild cannot afford to lose momentum and he wants a top centre forward – such as Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen – and a central midfielder.
Those two purchases could cost up to £180m, which is far more than Ten Hag will have available to him.
The Dutchman knows he must therefore raise funds through player sales and the Mirror says seven players could be sold.
Anthony Martial has missed 28 of United’s 40 matches this term and cannot be relied upon. Though Ten Hag likes the Frenchman, he knows he could fetch good money in the market and fund a move for Kane or Osimhen.
Harry Maguire has started just two Premier League matches and is fifth choice at centre-back. The club are sympathetic to his position and will listen to offers.
Alex Telles, Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly and Brandon Williams are all deemed surplus to requirements and could all be available for cut-price fees.
Perhaps the most surprising player up for sale is Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The full-back endured a difficult start to the season but he’s made an admirable return since the World Cup.
Though Wan-Bissaka was deemed not good enough by Ten Hag last summer, he’s shown his worth in recent months and is arguably now ahead of Diogo Dalot in the pecking order.
