Rio Ferdinand believes Marcus Rashford can become more ‘horrible’ to play against

Rio Ferdinand believes that Marcus Rashford can become even more ‘horrible’ to play against, while he sometimes makes it too ‘easy for defenders’.

The Manchester United forward is in electric form, netting 13 times in 15 games since the World Cup.

The 25-year-old added to his fine goalscoring tally with a wonderful late header against one of Ferdinand’s former sides Leeds to send United on their way to a 2-0 victory at Elland Road on Sunday.

Despite Rashford being in the form of his life under Erik ten Hag after having coming through a tough period in his career, Ferdinand believes there could be even more to come form the England international.

Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: ‘If I’m a defender sometimes I look at Marcus and he can make it easy for defenders sometimes in the game. If he offered the threat in behind a bit more, then I think he’d get even more joy to feet and becomes that threat in behind still.

‘That part of the game there, his decision making on whether to come long or short, if he gets that he becomes even more of a horrible player to play against.’

The United legend also urged Rashford to be showcase his talent across 90 minutes, which is where he can become ‘world class’.

‘I think there’s more of the dominance over 90 minutes that he can bring where he’s bringing other people into the game because you know he’s got the passing,’ he said.

‘We saw that last season, even when he was out of form there were still elements where you were saying ‘wow’. He can produce a pass and put people through on goal of there are runners.

‘Once he starts getting that synergy with other people in the team he’ll be able to pick out players more. He can take over a game.

‘We’ve seen him do that at points this season but if he can do that more consistently I think you’re getting into the realms of world class football player. He’s not that far off now in terms of form, he’s right up there.’

After United’s victory against Leeds, Ten Hag hailed Rashford as one of the best goal scorers in Europe but also warned him to not get lazy if he wants to keep up his remarkable form.

Rashford will be hoping he can add to his 21-goal tally this season when United face Barcelona on Thursday night in the Europa League.
