Marcus Rashford matches Wayne Rooney’s 11-YEAR Manchester United scoring record

Marcus Rashford’s impressive season hit another milestone on Wednesday night when the Manchester United striker matched an 11-year club record held by Wayne Rooney.

Rashford found the net during United’s 2-2 home draw with Leeds, keeping up his scoring streak with a sixth consecutive Premier League goal at Old Trafford.

Rooney was the previous player to achieve the feat when he netted against Everton in April 2012 during an incredible 4-4 draw.

United’s own title bid took a major hit on Wednesday against Leeds after they could also only grab a point but Rashford’s goal started a comeback, with Erik ten Hag’s side 2-0 down following a first minute strike from Wilfried Gnonto and an own goal just after half-time from Raphael Varane.

Rashford rose highest to meet a Diogo Dalot cross to head home just after the hour mark before Jadon Sancho equalised with 20 minutes remaining.

The goal also marked Rashford’s 20th of the season across all competitions – including 11 from 22 top flight games

The 25-year-old’s six-match scoring run started against West Ham back in October and since then he has found the net against Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Manchester City and also Crystal Palace.

It’s not just at home where Rasfhord has impressed. Since the return of domestic action following the World Cup finals in December he has scored in all but one of United’s eight Premier League games.

Meanwhile, United boss Erik ten Hag has praised Sancho for netting their equaliser against Leeds, capping a return to form for the forward who has spent much of the winter on regaining his mental and physical match fitness having been out since October.

Ten Hag said: ‘He’s all the way back,’ said Ten Hag. ‘I’m proud he did it. I’m backing him, the coaches are backing him, the team is backing but he has to do it by himself.

‘It’s in his own hands. If he wants, he can do it. I’m really enjoying seeing him playing the way he did with so much confidence and belief.

‘We know he’s a magnificent player. I think consistently he can have a big impact, but he has to work hard. It will motivate him to get more. I really enjoyed it, especially for him – it will strengthen him.’

United’s draw comes at a potentially transitional time for the club, with owners the Glazer family looking to sell – attracting attention from Qatari investors who have opened talks over a potential £4.5bn buyout.
