Gina Dewdney, 34, Fᴇʟʟ ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ last year and was sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ when she was told at her 13-week sᴄᴀɴ she was expecting three kids that all shared ᴀ sɪɴɢʟᴇ ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇɴᴛᴀ.
A mum’s triplet 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 was made even more special as the babies shared ᴀ sɪɴɢʟᴇ ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇɴᴛᴀ , ᴀ ᴏɴᴇ ɪɴ 200 ᴍɪʟʟɪᴏɴ ᴄʜᴀɴᴄᴇ. And ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄs were left in disbelief when they discovered that the babies were sharing ᴀ sɪɴɢʟᴇ ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇɴᴛᴀ, ᴀ ʀᴀʀᴇ ᴏᴄᴄᴜʀʀᴇɴᴄᴇ .
She said :” I had a feeling that I might have twins ᴊᴜsᴛ because from very early on I had ʀᴇᴀʟʟʏ ʙᴀᴅ ɪɴsᴏᴍɴɪᴀ and ᴍɪɢʀᴀɪɴᴇs and I don’t sᴜFFᴇʀ from ᴍɪɢʀᴀɪɴᴇs at all. When we went for the sᴄᴀɴ at 13 weeks straight away she goes ‘you’ve got twins’. We were like, ‘Oh wow, that’s a nice surprise’ and then about 15-20 minutes into the sᴄᴀɴ, the woman wassᴄᴀɴɴɪɴɢ around and all of a sudden there were three ʜᴇᴀᴅs on the screen and Craig goes, ‘Is that the first head?!’ The sᴏɴᴏɢʀᴀᴘʜᴇʀ said, ‘Oh myGᴏᴅ, in 26 years ofsᴄᴀɴɴɪɴɢ I’ve ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ Fᴏᴜɴᴅ triplets.’ I was thinking stop there, don’t find anymore! So it was quite ᴀ sʜᴏᴄᴋ. I ᴊᴜsᴛ remember sᴄʀᴇᴀᴍɪɴɢ out ‘three?’”
Cᴏɴsᴜʟᴛᴀɴᴛs ᴀᴛ Lɪᴠᴇʀᴘᴏᴏʟ Wᴏᴍᴇɴ’s Hᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ said it appeared that Gina was expecting three ɪᴅᴇɴᴛɪᴄᴀʟ boys and that they were all sharing the sᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇɴᴛᴀ. However, at 16 weeks there seemed to be ᴀ ᴍɪx-ᴜᴘ with the sᴇx of the babies and the couple were told they were expecting two girls and a boy.The ᴅᴇɴᴛᴀʟ ᴛʜᴇʀᴀᴘɪsᴛ said: “At 16 weeks I was told it looked like two girls and one boy and ᴛᴡᴏ ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇɴᴛᴀs Fᴜsᴇᴅ together, but ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀs couldn’t see where it had been fused. I was like ‘oh good get a bit of both’.” At her 24-week sᴄᴀɴ Gina and Craig were told that in fact it definitely was three ɪᴅᴇɴᴛɪᴄᴀʟ boys and it was difficult during ᴜʟᴛʀᴀsᴏᴜɴᴅs to get a clear view as “someone’s Fᴏᴏᴛ would get in the way or someone’s ʜᴇᴀᴅ or they would ᴋɪᴄᴋ each other.”
At 31 weeks, Gina started to have ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴs and was ʀᴜsʜᴇᴅ for an ᴇᴍᴇʀɢᴇɴᴄʏ ᴄ-sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ . She said: “My ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀs ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ and I went to the Lɪᴠᴇʀᴘᴏᴏʟ Wᴏᴍᴇɴ’s Hᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ and they ᴋᴇᴘt me in hoping that the babies would stay in there for as long as possible, but 24 hours later the ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴs started. They had to call down to ᴀɴ ᴇᴍᴇʀɢᴇɴᴄʏ team. All three of the babies were all out in one minute 52 seconds. So there’s ɴᴏ minutes between them. They were all 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 at 3.52 at night. It was a bit of ᴀ sʜᴏᴄᴋ. When you’re that ᴘʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ everyday counts inside of the ᴡᴏᴍʙ.” Babies Jimmy, Jensen and Jaxson were then 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 ᴘʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ at “exactly the sᴀᴍᴇ time” on April 26. And if the triplets weren’t ʀᴀʀᴇ enough, 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 Jaxson was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 in the ᴀᴍɴɪᴏᴛɪᴄ sᴀᴄ, which is around ᴏɴᴇ ɪɴ 80,000 ᴄʜᴀɴᴄᴇ. Gina said: “Jaxson, the third triplet, was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 in the sᴀᴄᴋ. All of the ᴄᴏɴsᴜʟᴛᴀɴᴛs were like ‘that’s ʀᴇᴀʟʟʏ ʀᴀʀᴇ.’ It’s ᴏɴᴇ ɪɴ 80,000 and they said that it’s basically really good luck to be 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 in the sᴀᴄᴋ and to be known as ᴀ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ ʙᴀʙʏ.”
The now five-month-old babies spent six weeks in the Nᴇᴏɴᴀᴛᴀʟ ɪɴᴛᴇɴsɪᴠᴇ ᴄᴀʀᴇ ᴜɴɪᴛ at Lɪᴠᴇʀᴘᴏᴏʟ Wᴏᴍᴇɴ’s, but have since come home and are returning for ʀᴇɢᴜʟᴀʀ ᴄʜᴇᴄᴋ-ᴜᴘs. Jaxson, who was the sᴍᴀʟʟᴇsᴛ, he was ᴏɴʟʏ two pounds when he was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧, he needed ᴀ ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ ᴛʀᴀɴsFᴜsɪᴏɴ. But considering all of the ʀɪsᴋs, they’ve done really well. They all had ʜᴇʀɴɪᴀs, so Jensen has had his sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ but the other two are waiting to have sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ for that. So that’s ɴᴏᴛ very nice, but considering that, they’re thriving. They’re doing really really well. They’re putting the ᴡᴇɪɢʜᴛ ᴏɴ. They’re ᴊᴜsᴛ into three months clothes, which is ᴄʀᴀᴢʏ considering they’re five months now. ”
Gina said breastfeeding and ʟᴀᴄᴋ ᴏF sʟᴇᴇᴘ has proven difficult, but the babies have started to get their ɪɴᴅɪᴠɪᴅᴜᴀʟ ᴘᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛɪᴇs. She said: “They’re starting to smile now and starting to see their characters. What is interesting is they are all ɪᴅᴇɴᴛɪᴄᴀʟ and ⒹⓃⒶ is the sᴀᴍᴇ, but they’ve got such different ᴘᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛɪᴇs already and I think that is fascinating because they are all being brought up the sᴀᴍᴇ and you think of nature versus nurture.”
