FSG set to announce massive £275m deal that could anger Liverpool fans

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are due to announce a massive £275million deal that could anger Reds supporters, according to reports.

FSG set to announce massive £275m deal that could anger Liverpool fans

FSG have long been criticised at Anfield for their lack of investment in the first team. Indeed, supporters feel that limited spending in the transfer market has left the side in a vulnerable position, after a brilliant past half-decade.

An ageing squad in desperate need of rejuvenation has seen Klopp’s side stumble to sixth place in the league after 17 games.

However, it seems the Americans, who are exploring the possibility of selling their stake in Liverpool, are not popular on either side of the Atlantic. FSG chief John W Henry, who also owns baseball team the Boston Red Sox, was booed while attending the NHL Winter Classic between the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

While the Red Sox were not in action, some of their supporters were in attendance and made their feelings known regarding the side’s lack of investment, which resulted in a rock-bottom finish in the American League East last term.

Fans had been frustrated after star player Xander Bogaerts departed for the San Diego Padres while the team also missed out on a number of major targets.

However FSG are set to agree to a deal that could appease fans in Boston, but anger supporters on Merseyside.

FSG set to extend Denvers contract

The new deal was initially signed as a means of avoiding arbitration and to give the Red Sox more time to negotiate a longer contract with the 26-year-old two-time All-Star.

However, it is now being reported that the Red Sox have come to a longer-term agreement, that will be the biggest contract in their history.

Indeed, various outlets in the US claim that FSG have sanctioned an 11-year deal for Devers worth a whopping $331m (£275.2m) to keep him in Boston.

Though the deal has not yet been officially confirmed, it would be the sixth-largest deal in MLB history.

The move is likely to anger Liverpool fans, with Jurgen Klopp’s side in desperate need of a midfield revamp.
