The upper level has a loft living area. It is recommended in winter that you have a 4WD or AWD vehicle. Once you reach the wood cabin you will be rewarded with seclusion, beauty, and a lot of fun just getting there.
There is plenty to see and do in the area, if you enjoy hiking you can visit the North Carolina section of the Appalachian trail which rises to spectacular summits to include the 6,643-foot Clingmans Dome, the highest mountain on the Appalachian Trail, and drops into the dark and steep walls of the Nantahala River Gorge. The Appalachian Trail has 95.7 miles in North Carolina, but the also Trail runs along the Tennessee/North Carolina border for 224.7 additional miles. As the Appalachian Trail ascends to the High Country of the state line, hikers on the trail traverse the highest mountains along the trail, including several above 6,000 feet. When visiting the trail you will need an advance permit for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and depending on the length of your hike, shelter reservations as well.
