Jeremy Renner, who is currently under critical condition but is said to be stable as of now, has often been seen surrounded by some controversy or another.
This led him to not be as liked as a celebrity. He has always been circled by issues, many regarding him and his ex-wife while they were in a custody battle for their daughter.
His behavior has always been a matter of concern. It made him not ideal to work with and there had been certain comments that further dragged him into controversies in crucial instances including with his co-star Scarlett Johansson. Even though he is one of the few original Avengers still active in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Renner wanted to get his character killed off very early on.
Jeremy Renner Was Ready To Say Goodbye To Hawkeye
Out of the few remaining Avengers, Jeremy Renner‘s Hawkeye was one who the actor himself had been rooting for to be killed. His idea was to inspire the directors by faking heart attacks on the set of the movies.
“I just had a heart attack in every scene – I’d just be walking with… Scarlett Johansson, and just like be ugh. And they said, ‘what are you doing man?’ I’m giving you an option if you just want to kick me out of this movie. Just you know, at any given moment, if you wanna kill me off, daddy’s gonna be having a heart attack.”
This was his idea because he did not agree with how Clint Barton had not been explored so much as a character. One of his reasons for taking up the role was to learn and know more about Hawkeye. That was something that the MCU took a long time to establish. Although it was a complaint both he and the fans shared, it was not the ideal way of hinting at progress or an end to his character.
Jeremy Renner’s Apology Towards His Comments Rose To The Controversy
During an interview, both Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans had passed objectifying and obscene comments towards Scarlett Johansson’s MCU character, Natasha Romanoff. While Evans’ apology was genuine and felt as if he was really sorry for ever saying anything that would limit his co-star in such a way, Renner’s left much to be desired.
“I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”
Jeremy Renner gave out an apology that felt half-hearted. It gave out an impression that he was far from sorry for what he said and expected everyone else to consider it a joke as well.
