Almost one month from now is the most awaited event of the golf community—the TGL! The Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy league will finally kick start on the 7th of January in 2025. The league has faced an end number of challenges in the past. Be it Tiger Woods‘s retirement speculations in October that hindered the trust of fans or the steep ticket prices, with general admission tickets priced at $160. Fast-forwarding it to today, the interest in TGL is only growing as Rory McIlroy steps inside the SoFi Center and takes swings at the massive screen.
Fans react positively as McIlroy swings inside the tech-infused course
The 53′ x 64′ in. screen is a crucial part of the Palm Beach SoFi Center and is 24 times larger than the standard simulator screen. Previously, Alexis Ohanian, the co-owner of the team, used himself as a scale to demonstrate the screen’s massive size, holding a banana for comparison. Now, as one of the founders, Rory McIlroy swung his drivers and clubs to show why exactly there is such a huge buzz around the screen; people are now reacting positively. But this was not the case earlier. Fans had dual perspectives!
Some fans even said to watch Bryson DeChambeau’s YouTube channel instead. But now it seems like the PGA Tour pro-Rory McIlroy has changed their perspective. As TGL and Rory McIlroy took to Instagram to post the preseason warmup video, fans have gotten excited to see what’s next. “I’ve wanted to hate on TGL, but it’s looking better and better! I just love golf,” a golf enthusiast posted on X, reflecting his change of views. While another wrote, “Actually looks pretty cool. I’ve been concerned…”
While there still are some fans who are totally against it, TGL has definitely turned more of their critiques into lovers with this intriguing video. The league will have six teams to entertain the fans and dominate the traditional golf course. The But fans are overhyped and “cannot wait” no longer. Expressing the same feeling, a follower commented, “SWING IT 🔥SWING IT🔥 SWINGIT,” as Kegan Bradley hit the ball up in the air.
One fan, however, had a mixed reaction, saying, “Really looking forward to this. The only thing that I wish they didn’t do was try and tie teams to cities geographically. None of these guys are ‘representing’ Boston, or LA, or anywhere. Would have been less cringe to just have cool team names. Nevertheless, I will be watching!”

TGL’s unique format and features

But what truly distinguishes TGL is its creative approach to the game. To ensure a faster tempo of play, the league implemented a shot clock similar to that used in basketball. Golfers will have 40 seconds to take a shot or face a one-shot penalty. Furthermore, teams may take four timeouts per match to debate strategy, with only two timeouts permitted per session.
