Jose Mourinho is being eyed by Paris Saint-Germain with Roma players fearing the Portuguese will leave the Serie A club at the end of the season.

Mourinho has led Roma to the Europa League Final, a year after winning the Europa Conference League, and is adored by supporters in the Italian capital.

But it is expected that PSG will part company with Christophe Galtier in the coming weeks and Sportsmail understands Mourinho is a leading candidate to replace him.

Unlike PSG, Roma do not have the transfer funds that Mourinho has become accustomed to, meaning there will be limited scope for improving the squad even if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.

His relationship with fellow Portuguese Tiago Pinto, Roma’s general manager, is thought to have been strained at times this term, while Mourinho has only one year remaining on his contract.

‘I’m not talking about my future with anyone in public,’ said Mourinho after the meeting with Sampdoria earlier in the season.

‘The situation is clear, from a contractual point of view I still have one year on my contract. Football is football, sometimes contracts aren’t the most important thing.’

After the win over Feyenoord in the Europa League in April, he then said: ‘I’m happy here, sometimes I express my frustrations, I think I have different ambitions but let’s see, today I’m really happy and I work for the people here. I have seen tremendous joy in people.’
