PSG’s Kylian Mbappé (24) is in contention to win his fourth consecutive accolade as Ligue 1 player of the year. The France skipper, currently top of the league goalscoring leaderboard with 26 strikes, is part of the 5-man shortlist to be crowned the league’s best player this season. Mbappé will face stiff competition from PSG teammate Lionel Messi (35).
Lens midfield maestro Seko Fofana (28), his free-scoring teammate Loïs Openda (23) and Lille’s Canadian striker Jonathan David (23) are also among the nominees. The winner will be revealed during the Trophées UNFP awards ceremony on May 28, UNFP being the French equivalent of the PFA.
The UNFP have also revealed their nominees to elect the best French footballer playing abroad. Winner of the past three accolades, 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema (35) will try to make it four in a row as well. Real Madrid teammate Eduardo Camavinga (20), AC Milan’s Mike Maignan (27) and Olivier Giroud (36) as well as Eintracht Frankfurt Randal Kolo Muani (24) round off the nominees’ shortlist.
