And even top Hollywood stars, including Angelina Jolie, have fallen victim to the hoax.
In March 2023, a Facebook post appeared to suggest that Angelina had passed away, with a link to a news story.
Although it did not specifically say the Lara Croft actress was dead, it did feature a picture of a photo placed on a coffin with fans crying, and the words “very sad news about Angelina Jolie”.
However, the mum of six is the latest celebrity to fall victim to fake death reports and she is alive and well.
A search on social media in April 2023, shows the star is being talked about in relation to her movie Those Who Wish Me Dead.
People have started talking about the 2021 movie after it aired on TV.

Angelina is not the first celebrity to fall victim to a fake death rumor.
In 2023 alone, hoax reports of the deaths of Hollywood, TV, music and sports stars have been doing the rounds.

When did the hoax start?
The original Facebook post came to light in March 2023, however in April 2023, a website called mediamass began another rumor by posting an article about a fake Facebook post.
The site claimed that a Facebook post said: “At about 11 a.m. ET on Sunday (April 23, 2023), our beloved actress Angelina Jolie passed away.
“Angelina Jolie (daughter of Jon Voight) was born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles.
“She will be missed but not forgotten.
