Ashleigh Trahan from Vancouver Island had always dreamed of building a tiny house, so when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and housing prices skyrocketed, she realized that now might be as good a time as any.
She enlisted the services of Canadian tiny house company Fritz Tiny Homes, and their latest micro dwelling on wheels, the Trahan House, was born. But it’s certainly not your average tiny house.
The Trahan House is a 362-square-foot home, teaching studio, office, and gym, in one. It packs in everything Ashleigh and her partner, Elyse, could ever need. Ashleigh’s request to the company was that it needed to have space for her Peloton bike and an 8×8 yoga room for remote teaching. It’s clear to see they more than delivered.
Now, she and Elyse have space for movement, the freedom of being wherever they please, and the ability to enjoy the outdoors in earnest.
PinThe Trahan House is a 362-square-foot tiny home named after its owner, Ashleigh Trahan, from Vancouver Island in British Columbia. It features black metal, douglas fir, and tall windows to maximize the light and views.
PinUpon entering the tiny home, it’s clear to see it’s a beautiful combination of style and function. The Douglas fir flooring is light and bright, but it draws your eye to the walnut pull-out cabinet to store shoes, jackets, and more. The cabinet is also well-placed to hide the tiny home’s wheels.
PinThe living room/yoga studio is one of the most aesthetically pleasing parts of the tiny home. It’s fitted out with a beautiful green velvet Article sofa on a wood base with storage drawers, a fold-out table with stools for up to six people, and a gorgeous ceiling that adds the perception of space.
PinThe office area between the living room and the kitchen offers plenty of room for work or play. It boasts an expansive concrete counter with storage, a ventilation system, and a floating walnut shelf with lighting to brighten the area. It’s also well-positioned to take advantage of all the natural light streaming through the windows and door.
PinKevin and Heather from Fritz Tiny Homes were proud of the kitchen they had created. They described how they always keep functional elements down low, maximizing the open feeling and natural light.
Ashleigh’s kitchen features striking white cabinetry, a microwave with a built-in hood vent, a full-size refrigerator, and a Unique Appliances propane range. The entire look of the space is tied together with a lighting pendant hanging above the counter.
PinThe stairway in the tiny home providing access to the loft-style bedroom takes up minimal space. It boasts alternating risers with built-in storage drawers, allowing Ashleigh to store clutter out of sight.PinThe loft-style bedroom is easily accessible from the main living space of the tiny home and immediately impresses with how light, bright, and spacious it is. It has windows on each side of the bed for cross ventilation and light, and LED lighting is integrated into the headboard for additional lighting at night.
PinWarmth, texture, and lightness emanate from the Douglas fir ceiling in the loft bedroom, while storage is certainly not lacking, courtesy of the built-in bedside storage. PinOne of the primary considerations when building this tiny home for Ashleigh was having a dedicated space for her Peloton bike. This is located to the rear of the house, adjacent to the bathroom. There are awning-style windows for ventilation and light and a striking walnut ceiling for extra height.PinEvery homeowner deserves to have a luxurious bathroom, and Heather and Kevin certainly provided this for Ashleigh. The wall tiles feature concrete with glass beads, and the shower floor is made with hexagonal walnut tiles that they cut with a CNC router and used epoxy seal to waterproof.
