Barking mad: nail art for dogs is the latest US trend for the pampered pooch that has everything
Doggie nail art is taking the US by storm and being applied in salons up and down the continent.
The trend appears to be the next big thing for zany dog lovers such as to US Apprentice star Aubrey O’Day who recently gave her own dogs a pastel-coloured dip-dye make-over.
Warren London, the website of an American doggie-product wholesalers which sells special Pawdicure Polish Pens for either salon or at-home use, proves that there are no limits to the lengths owners will go to beautify their dogs.
It even features a blog where proud owners upload shots of their own efforts practised on long-suffering pooches.
The tongue-in-cheek names of the colours certainly give our own Nails inc. a run for its money with hues amusingly titled Paw-ty In Pink, Smooch The Pooch Purple, Orange You Glad I’m Neon and Walk In The Park Green.

For fidgety customers, the varnishes are quick drying and are ready for walkies in only 40 seconds.
The makers boast that, ‘only one layer application is necessary for that great look for your pampered pup.’
Fortunately for Fido and co though, said pens are water based and non toxic.
The site also features an online tutorial to ensure that users get the best our of their Pawdicure Polish Pens.
It would seem that celebrity nail art fans such as Katy Perry have got a lot to answer for.
However, whether the trend translates to the British market remains to be seen.
Kristin Knox aka super blogger, The Clothes Whisperer, and owner of Butters the fashion dog (who has been known to sit front row at Mulberry with mum), remains unconvinced. ‘Butters refuses to sport nail art, we prefer to keep things chic and au naturale. Besides, who would see them beneath all that fur?’
She has a point.
