Former Chelsea winger and France international Florent Malouda would love to see free-scoring PSG forward Kylian Mbappé put pen to paper with the West London outfit in the coming years. The 2012 Champions League winner believes that the Premier League would be the ideal league for the Paris-born prodigy to flourish – “I’ve been campaigning for him to join Chelsea for a very long time! So far, I’ve failed (laughs) but I will keep trying“, Malouda said to Ice36.
Mbappé is tied to PSG on a contract set to expire in 2024, however, the deal he signed last season includes an option for a further year. Only he can trigger this one-year extension. This means that, were PSG to cash in for their star player, they would have to transfer list Mbappé this summer, although they are not expected to do so, unless Mbappé forces his way out of the club. “One thing that you have to understand about Kylian Mbappé is that he knows exactly what he wants out of his football career”, Malouda said.
Malouda explains that he hopes to see the France skipper play in the Premier League one day: “There are not that many teams that can give him what he wants and there are not that many teams that can build their team around him. He is a leader, he’s just been appointed the captain of the French national team and he will be looking for a leadership role at his next club, which can create problems.”
However, the former Lyon winger indicated he was fairly certain that Mbappé would take the leap to the Premier League. “It’s just a matter of time and connections. You need to get on the phone to Todd Boehly and tell him, then you need to get on the phone to Kylian !“
