ew York – the concrete jungle where dreams are made of… Gigi Hadid’s latest off-duty ensemble. If there’s one person we’d take “first thing I pulled out of my wardrobe” style advice from right now, it’s Gigi (she did start her own knitwear brand after all). She constantly shows us how not to make baggy shirts and loose fitting jeans just look like our clothes are too big.
Though a supermodel in her own right, she was channelling her inner Cindy Crawford when stepping out in Brooklyn yesterday in an-black ensemble topped off with an oversized leather jacket – a staple in any 1990s cool girl’s wardrobe.
She kept it simple and paired the jacket with straight-leg jeans, a hoodie tucked into the waistband and plain low-rise converse. The cherry on the tiered throwback style-coated cake was some brown oval sunglasses to complete a look that would have Anna Scott (aka Julia Roberts in Notting Hill) shaking in her boots. She scooped her blonde tresses back into a bun, threw her Prada Cleo over her shoulder, and hey presto.
The leather blazer – like numerous 90’s trends – is back with a vengeance. But, unlike its indigenous era, the style consumes our social media feeds like it’s going out of fashion. Which it’s absolutely not. Among the stars who are loving the leather are Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Emily Ratajkowski… need we say more?
Gigi, the unofficial queen of street style has a deep-rooted relationship with this sartorial sector. On launching her clothing brand Guest In Residence, the 27-year-old said on Instagram, that she is, “The founder, creative director and love of all-things-cozy”. Gigi proudly boasts that all garments are 100% cashmere. Yesterday the youngest of the haute Hadid trio Anwar, posted a video to his Instagram story showcasing Guest In Residence socks.
