Selena Gomez & Harry Styles Same-Sex On-Screen Kisses Compete for MTV Movie & TV Awards Best Kiss

The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards have announced their nominations, and the nominees for this year’s Best Kiss include Selena Gomez and Harry Styles — for their headline-making same-sex on-screen kisses.

Best Kiss is one of the most coveted and iconic MTV Movie & TV Awards categories. The 2023 winners will essentially enter a make-out Hall of Fame that’s already stacked with heavy-hitters: Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst’s culture-resetting smooch in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in The Notebook, Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain, Noah Centineo and Lana Condor in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and of course, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s 4-year winning streak for their lip work in Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn Part 1.

Harry Styles (who is also nominated for 2023 Best Villain) is nominated for the first time in the Best Kiss category for his on-screen kiss with David Dawson in 2022’s gay romance My Policeman. He’ll compete against four other nominees, including Selena Gomez’s kiss with her bestie Cara Delevingne in season 2 of Only Murders in the Building. (“It was just fun,” Cara said shortly after the episode aired. “Would anyone in the world not like to kiss Selena?”)

You might also remember last year’s Best Fight nominees, which had Euphoria‘s iconic Cassie vs. Maddy fight up against literal superhero brawls. The 2023 contenders list features skirmishes like Brad Pitt and Bad Bunny’s Bullet Train fight and the epic showdown between Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) in Stranger Things 4.

This year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, taking place at the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles, will be hosted by Drew Barrymore and broadcast live on Sunday, May 7 at 8 p.m. ET. Make sure to cast your vote for your favorite stars, shows, and movies at vote.mtv.com — all polls close on April 17 at 6 p.m. ET.
