If built, this turtle-shaped ship will become one of the largest floating structures in the world ever built.
Design company Lazzarini (Italy) recently announced the idea (concept) of building a giant superyacht called Pangeos. Originally considered a mobile floating city, Pangeos includes many hotels, shopping malls, parks, piers and airports, and all the other facilities needed to accommodate 60,000 guests in the middle of the sea.
According to DesignBoom, Pangeos is the name Lazzarini gave to it, inspired by Pangea, a supercontinent that existed millions of years ago during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras.
With an identical shape to a sea turtle, Pangeos is 550 m long, up to 610 m wide at the widest part (wings). If built, this turtle-shaped ship will become one of the largest floating structures in the world ever built.
With a draft of 30 meters, Pangeos’ huge hull consists of nine different decks and is divided into several blocks. On the top floors, the design team from Lazzarini will arrange the harbour, the main square, villas, private houses, buildings, terraces, and an airport area that allows a variety of aircraft to fly. can take off/land.
In the lower level area, the design team equips the yacht with 30,000 rooms of various sizes to provide accommodation for tens of thousands of tourists. Meanwhile, at the bottom of the boat, the design team also provided anti-sink solutions for the bottom of the boat, which is mainly made of steel. In particular, Pangeos also comes with a lock called Terashipyard, 600 m long, 650 m wide, allowing all vehicles to launch and go straight to the sea.
Of course, to be able to move a giant ship like Pangeos, designers need to equip a super powerful propulsion system. Accordingly, Pangeos is equipped with 9 HTS engines, each with a capacity of 16,800 horsepower and can be powered by different power sources on board, allowing it to travel at a speed of 5 knots. ration / hour.
When moving, the ‘wings’ of the ship will receive energy from the braking force of the waves and Pangeos can run across the oceans with no emissions. In addition, the roof of the ship is also covered with solar cells, providing part of the clean energy needed for the superyacht.
While Pangeos is still just a design on paper, Pierpaolo Lazzarini still hopes the idea of building this superyacht will soon be realized. It is estimated that the cost to close Pangeos will cost about 8 billion USD, over a period of 8 years.
