Coach Didier Deschamps has announced his decision to appoint striker Kylian Mbappe to become the new captain of the French team, replacing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris who has retired from international football.

At the age of 24, Mbappe has 66 caps for France, scoring 36 goals and owning the 2018 World Cup title, runner-up in 2022. He also scored a total of 12 goals in just two World Cups. Therefore, the decision of coach Didier Deschamps received support from the French press.

RMC Sport channel also said that after officially appointing Mbappe as the new captain of the French team, coach Didier Deschamps also appointed striker Antoine Griezmann as vice captain.

The French team is currently gathering at the Clairefontaine Training Center from March 20 to prepare for the EURO 2024 qualifying matches against the Netherlands and Ireland on March 24 and March 27, respectively.
