Pep Guardiola almost didn’t become Manchester City’s new manager in 2016 because he insisted on living in luxury in the city center, according to a book – until he agreed on his present flat.
Pep Guardiola’s insistence on living in the city center nearly prevented Manchester City from hiring him as their new manager, according to a book.
Many of the club’s players are believed to prefer living away from the hustle and bustle, as they typically reside in Cheshire mansions.
However, Guardiola was reportedly adamant about living in the center of the action, causing City officials to sweat as they searched for a home for him.
Pep Guardiola almost did not join Manchester City due to his city housing requirements.
In February 2016, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich tactician agreed to replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad and began searching for a new home.
Pep’s City: The Making of a Superteam, written by Pol Ballus and Lu Martin, reveals that the club was concerned that he would break his promise.
In fɑct, a portion of the novel describes how football director Txiki Begirisain instructed player liaison manager David Quintana to meet with Guardiola in Munich.
As he did in Munich, Guardiola was eager to live in luxury in 2016’s bustling environment.
Ballus and Martin wrote: “In Munich, the Guardiola family inhabited a spacious mansion on Sophienstrasse.
Pep demanded comparable accommodations in Manchester, and the issue was in jeopardy of becoming a deal-breaker.
Quintana and Pep met during a three-hour lunch at a local Vietnamese restaurant.
Lunch was spent discussing the organization, infrastructure, and players of the club, but the issues surrounding the Guardiolas’ new home remained unresolved.
However, after the deal appeared to be in jeopardy, Guardiola settled for a luxury apartment.
The Deansgate CitySuites ApartHotel, where he resides, offers breathtaking views of Manchester.
The issue was that Pep insisted on living in the city center, but there was no suitable property there.
It never existed. Begiristain saw all of his plans disintegrate before his eyes. The deal to bring Pep to City was at rᎥsk.
Nevertheless, the situation was resolved by City’s promise to ‘build’ Guardiola the home he desired, despite the family’s relocation to a luxury apartment.
Each apartment features a sizable living area and a kitchen with the latest technology.
A swimming pool, where Guardiola may spend his free time, is also available in the structure.
His current residence is the centrally located Deansgate CitySuites in Manchester.
The sixteen-story building contains 237 one- and two-bedroom apartments, each with its own fully-equipped kitchen and spacious living room.
Guardiola is believed to spend some of his time off the field in one of the two floors’ worth of privately-owned apartments.
Man City pair Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan go on double date in Italy
It is a rare occurrence that the two City midfielders have several days off in midweek
Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva decided to swap Manchester for Milan as they went on a double date with their other halves on Monday.
The Man City duo dined out at Salumaio di Montenapoleone in the Italian city, with Silva dressing the part by wearing a turtle neck and blazer combo, while Gundogan went for a more casual look.
Gundogan was accompanied by his wife Sara Arfaoui, while Silva was with girlfriend Ines Tomaz for the spot of lunch in the city.
The four were in high spirits as they sat down in the restaurant’s courtyard for some food, sharing jokes with one another during some time off in midweek.
In a post on Arfaoui’s Instagram story, Silva and Gundogan are seen laughing with one another while surrounded by the historic Bagatti Valsecchi building the restaurant is situated in.
Man City duo Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva enjoyed some downtime in Milan on Monday with their other halves as they went for lunch at Salumaio di Montenapoleone
It is a rare occurrence that the two midfielders have several days off in midweek, given City’s hectic schedule of playing multiple games a week.
Pep Guardiola urged his players to ‘forget football’ on Sunday and enjoy their time off following their win over Newcastle on Saturday.
He said: ‘It’s good now not to think much, two days off for everyone, we need it because it’s been a tough February month for us.
‘Not for the amount of games, which we are used to, but especially the away, travels, away, travels. Now it’s two days off. I like in these two days that people forget football if they can. Enjoy time with their friends and family or whatever.
‘Then Tuesday to Saturday, we have enough time to reset ourselves and do it again.’
