PSG have no intention of letting go of their new all-time record goalscorer Kylian Mbappé (24) anytime soon, according to a report from L’Equipe. Last May, the 2018 World Cup winner with France put pen to paper on a two-year extension, tying him to the club until 2024. However, the contract extension includes an option for a further year, which would require a mutual agreement. According to the outlet, neither PSG or Mbappé are in a hurry to activate said option for an extra year.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain are not exploring the possibility of a sale for their prized asset when the upcoming transfer window will open, even if Mbappé was to put in a transfer request.
L’Équipe add that PSG are ready to play the waiting game, like they did in 2021 when they rejected approaches and offers from Real Madrid worth €200m. The PSG board are said to deem talks or negotiation for the departure of Mbappé impossible, whatever his price might be.
L’Équipe report tonight that there are differing reports regarding the conditions by which a renewal clause in Kylian Mbappé’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain could be triggered, to extend his stay in the French capital past the end of next season.
The forward, who became the club’s all-time top scorer last weekend, signed a two-year contract extension to put an end to speculation of a free transfer to Real Madrid last summer. The deal involves an option for an extra year, which the two parties would need to mutually agree on, but it can also be triggered automatically if certain terms are met.
The exact terms remain unclear, though, although some of L’Équipe’s sources have pointed to a Champions League title, while others indicate that the clause is time-sensitive. Mbappé is evidently looking to set the bar high for his teammates, and wants to feel like he is in the right place to write history – although the 24-year-old also feels that winning European football’s biggest prize would be sweeter with his hometown club than with another team.
In any case, the club has no intention of letting him go this summer – a prospective move to Spain will seemingly have to wait, for the time being at least.
