Kurt Warner was in amazement of Patrick Mahomes during Super Bowl LVII as he went from one playmaking Super Bowl MVP to another. The fellow two-time MVP, Warner, was astounded by one play in particular.
Warner was breaking down Mahomes’s film from the Big Game in a two-part YouTube series, and the first pass of the third quarter caught his eye. On the play, Mahomes was being pressured by Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis and had to escape the pocket by running up the middle of the field. The quarterback clearly was looking to his right, but in a split second, he somehow spotted Travis Kelce to his left and threw a dart to the star tight end for an 11-yard gain.
Mahomes is known for his no-look passes, but this one impressed even Warner.
“I want to show you this from the end zone,” Warner said. “I want you to watch the head of Patrick Mahomes. Look at his head, his head is facing this way while he’s trying to get away from the defender right here, Davis right there. You guys tell me: How does he see Travis Kelce coming across the field here where his eyes don’t turn until right there? I mean, this is the kind of stuff that Patrick Mahomes does that you just sit there and shake your head, like I don’t even know how stuff like this is possible.”
Mahomes recorded 182 passing yards and three touchdown passes to win his second Super Bowl and second Super Bowl MVP as the Chiefs edged the Eagles, 38-35.
