Dwayne Johnson was super excited to be a part of the DC Universe. After being in the making for fifteen years, Black Adam was finally released only to receive mediocre reviews. From featuring the Justice Society of America to a little cameo from Henry Cavill, Black Adam was quite a hyped-up film. However, thanks to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new vision, Dwayne Johnson’s DCU journey was limited to his debut.

Apart from the DCU debacle, Dwayne Johnson was also the center of a lot of controversies regarding the Fast & Furious franchise. However, just like his ring name, Dwayne Johnson is still standing as strong as a rock. He has made it clear time and again that “giving up” is not a part of his vocabulary. Moving ahead into his career, the wrestler-turned-actor might be working on a sequel to the Brad Peyton–directed San Andreas (2015).

According to the YouTube channel, Hero Spotlight, Dwayne Johnson is once again joining hands with Hiram Garcia for another project. Garcia is the President of Production at Seven Bucks Productions, a studio created by Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia. According to Hero Spotlight, the Johnson-Garcia duo might be returning for San Andreas 2. While it hasn’t been announced yet, sources state that Johnson will be fighting against the Ring of Fire region in the Pacific.
If the sequel really is happening, it looks like there is no rest for the wicked as Johnson moves on quickly from one project to the next. However, with San Andreas carrying a low Rotten Tomatoes score of 48%, we wonder if the alleged sequel will even be worth the trouble. As for what Johnson is up to right now, he will soon be seen in the upcoming film, Red One, alongside Chris Evans. The film will also see Garcia as one of the producers and he is also responsible for the story of the film.

Well, there are no official confirmations at the moment. Back in 2021, Alexandra Daddario, who played Blake in San Andreas, stated that while there was a draft for the sequel, she doesn’t believe the sequel will be moving forward.
“It was mentioned to me several years ago when I went into New Line. I don’t think that the exec that I was speaking to is there anymore. But they had a draft written. As far as I know, it’s not happening. It’s been a long time. I don’t think so. I think it was in development at one point, I should say. But that happens in Hollywood all the time.”
However, in 2022 Giant Freakin Robot stated that according to their trusted sources, San Andreas 2 is definitely going to be a thing of the future. It looks like we will just have to wait for an official confirmation from the team of San Andreas. Given the fact that Johnson is a pretty busy man, the sequel shouldn’t be expected to be announced soon, if it is actually happening.
San Andreas is available to stream on HBO Max and Red One is scheduled to release during the 2023 Holiday season on Amazon Prime Video.
