Mother describes how terrified she was when she saw the size of her son after vaginal delivery.
A mother went viral on TikTok when she said she was shocked to discover how big her son was, despite the fact that doctors had warned her before giving birth. In the video, Blake Alexis says that he heard, in the prenatal consultation at 38 weeks of gestation, that the baby would be larger than average, but he did not imagine that it would be so much.
“My baby was measuring in the 98th percentile, and I honestly didn’t believe it,” she said. But three weeks from now, she would know it wasn’t an exaggeration. “I gave birth to a child who looked older,” she confessed.
In a series of videos about Sonny’s birth, Blake explained that she had a goal to have a natural birth. So she was not given medications to induce the process and preferred natural methods.
“I was doing everything I could to make the baby come naturally — walking, eating spicy food; I even had a membrane lift at my 40-week appointment and there was still no sign of a baby,” she explained.
At around 41 weeks, her water broke, and Blake says she had her first contraction as she walked to the hospital. When they did the tests, she was 4 cm dilated. The contractions came and went over the course of nine hours, but she didn’t go beyond four centimeters. “The contractions went from zero to 100 pretty quickly, and I really wasn’t controlling myself well… So I slowed down really fast,” she explained.
When she realized she was still in the same situation after all this time, she just thought she wanted an anesthetic. In another video, she shows that she signed the epidural application forms “faster than she could read them.”
“I spent nine months working on breathing exercises, affirmations, reading books, and preparing for a natural birth,” said Blake, who, in the end, received analgesia. After almost two hours, ‘little’ Sonny was born, weighing 4.5 kg.
“I had a vaginal birth, I cried, I got the epidural and I didn’t have gestational diabetes,” she said. This is because, in general, gestational diabetes results in fetal macrosomia, when the baby is born larger than expected.
“After he was born, precisely because he was so big, the doctors recommended checking his sugar levels every 24 hours. We did that, and he was fine. He was just a really big boy,” she reported.
Netizens were also impressed with the baby and made jokes in the comments. “Wow, he already left with a credit score at the bank,” joked one person. “This kid is ready for college,” said another.
Some parents also capitalized on the video’s success to share their own stories with big babies. “My son weighed almost 5 kg and was 55 cm long. He was the one who took me home from the hospital,” joked one mother.
