Fast & Furious has always placed a strong emphasis on “family.” They have seen their fair share of conflicts with one another, just like any other typical family out there. Co-stars did not agree with Dwayne Johnson’s choice to move through with the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff.
While Dwayne Johnson wasn’t on the best of terms with various co-stars, including Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez, his feud with Tyrese Gibson takes the cake. Thanks to the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff, there was a delay in the release date for Fast & Furious 9 or F9 and Tyrese Gibson was not happy, to say the least. Dwayne Johnson found himself on the receiving end of a lot of harsh words from his ex-co-actor and the latter even threatened the former on social media.

F9’s release date was changed from 2019 to 2020, which meant that production would go longer than the team had anticipated. Also, it meant that everyone on the squad, including Tyrese Gibson, who played Roman Pearce in the movie, would receive their compensation later than anticipated. It goes without saying that Gibson wasn’t pleased with the choice and he mostly blamed Dwayne Johnson. In a number of outbursts on social media, Gibson openly criticized the Red Notice actor for abandoning his family.
In one of those meltdowns, Gibson wrote, “Congratulations to The Rock and your brother in law aka 7 Buck producing partner for making The Fast and the Furious franchise about YOU.” In another one of his Instagram posts, which still has not been taken down by him, Gibson threatened Johnson stating, “You mess with family and my daughter’s survival, I mess with yours.” Gibson also stated in the same post that if Johnson is a part of F9 then the franchise will have to say goodbye to Roman Pearce.

However, after having a heartfelt talk with one of Johnson’s associates, things seemed to have cooled down between the two. Gibson blamed his “meds” for the outburst. If you thought that was the end of the story, it wasn’t. Upon the release of Hobbs and Shaw, Gibson took a dig at the film’s box office weekend. In a now-deleted post, he wrote, “I have to show my respects for one thing…he tried…folks called me a hater…and attacked me for speaking out…Breaking up the family clearly doesn’t have the value that one would assume it does.”
Even though Hobbs and Shaw did fairly well at the box office on its first weekend, it didn’t do as well as the Fast & Furious franchise, which was the reason behind Gibson’s taunt.

You know what they say, all’s well that ends well. After the countless jabs at his co-actor, Gibson revealed that they had “peaced up.” Appearing on Stir Crazy with Josh Horowitz, Gibson stated that the pair had talked for three to four hours and it was “great.”
“Me and The Rock peaced up. We talked for like four hours about three weeks ago. Yeah we talked…it was great. What’s interesting about the Fast and Furious is, it’s not about any of us individually. See, we are like the U.N. at this point. Everyone gets to go to the theatre and say, he and she looks like me.”
Gibson also revealed that he, too, had opportunities to star in a spin-off for his character. However, he denied the idea because he couldn’t make the franchise about him. It really is all about family, isn’t it?
