BLACKPINK‘s Jennie formed a legendary partnership with the classic luxury fashion brand Chanel in 2017 that has continued to blossom over the years.
Jennie’s ability to add a modern twist to the designer house’s timeless collections has cemented her status as a “Human Chanel.”

The simple yet elegant collection perfectly suits the refined style Jennie exudes, and her advertisement photos for the campaign were soon featured in numerous locations.
Chanel also created an animated concept film for the campaign featuring Jennie drawn in a cartoon style.

Similar animated videos were made for Margaret Qualley and Amandla Stenberg, whose clips are currently featured on Chanel’s official Instagram.
The videos were not well received by many fans of the luxury fashion designer, who claimed they were “off-brand,” and many called for the animation team to be credited.

While Jennie’s film isn’t on Chanel’s Instagram at the time of writing, it is on Chanel’s website and quickly received backlash from netizens.
Netizens had separate concerns about Jennie’s film; many felt the animation didn’t resemble the gorgeous BLACKPINK member.

“I can’t tell if [the animation is] pretty…. [It] looks average.” “I’ve never seen an animation being uglier than real life before, Jennie is prettier” “Only the beauty mark is the same” “Yes, I enjoyed seeing this beauty mark girl.. Now, please show us Jennie’s character.” “I don’t know… if this [animation of Jennie] has charm or not…”
Many felt that the beauty mark below Jennie’s eyebrow was the only resemblance the animated character had to its namesake.

This isn’t the first time Chanel has created an animated video for Jennie. She was also immortalized in a dreamy video for their 2021/22 Métiers d’art collection in a very different animated style.
