Captain America: New World Order‘s Anthony Mackie recently revealed what the Sam Wilson incarnation of Cap’s true superpower is.
Mackie singled out Wilson’s lack of superhuman abilities as his greatest gift in an interview with journalist Kevin Polowy. “I think with my Cap, he’s not a superhero,” he said. “He doesn’t have a super serum, so his superpower is his humanity. So, I think with him, he has to come to the stage with a very different understanding of what it is to be a good guy or be a bad guy and what are the decisions that make you toe that line in the way that you did. So, I just see him as more of a humane Cap as opposed to a distinctive judge Cap — [a] Cap of judgment, where this is right and this is wrong. There are decisions that make you choose right or wrong.”
Fans will get to see Wilson dish out his unique brand of justice in New World Order, the fourth installment in the Captain America franchise. The upcoming film marks Mackie’s first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance after adopting the Captain America mantle in Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It will pit him against Tim Blake Nelson’s Leader, a supervillain not seen on screen since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Nelson previously described himself as “delighted” to be making his MCU comeback in New World Order and thanked fans for lobbying Marvel Studios for his return.
MCU Veterans Return in Captain America 4
Fortunately, the newly-minted Captain America will have several allies in his fight with the Leader. This includes The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Carl Lumbly and Danny Ramirez, who will reprise the roles of Isaiah Bradley and Lieutenant Joaquin Torres, respectively. Ramirez’s return in Captain America: New World Order is especially notable, as it will see him suit up as a superhero for the first time. The third Captain America sequel will establish Torres as Sam Wilson’s successor as the Falcon, leaving the door open for the pair to team up, either in the film itself or a future MCU project.
Rumors also persist that Sam Wilson’s one-time partner Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier will show up in Captain America: The New World Order, too. Sources claim that Sebastian Stan will appear as Barnes in at least one scene, although the star is not officially attached to the production at this stage.
Captain America: New World Order arrives in theaters on May 3, 2024.
