Some Chelsea officials ‘resigned to Mason Mount not signing a new contract’ after talks stalled

Chelsea could reportedly be forced to make a decision on Mason Mount‘s future in the summer with the club yet to make a breakthrough in contract talks with the midfielder.

Mount has 18 months left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge and has declined the club’s latest offer.

Talks with Mount were halted after the 24-year-old rejected an offer feeling it left him below what other senior players and new signings are earning at Stanford Bridge.

The England international reportedly wants to treble his £80,000-a-week wages but the club are offering significantly less than they are paying expensive recruits.

According to the Telegraph ‘some at the club are resigned’ to Mount not extending his contract.

This could force the Blues to make a decision over his future in the summer.

Having spent more than £300million on players in January alone, Chelsea academy graduates like Mount are keen they are seen as an important part of the future and not taken for granted.

The Blues broke the British transfer record to pay £107million for Enzo Fernandez and spent £89million on Ukraine winter Mykhailo Mudryk.

Mount was left on the bench for Chelea’s match against West Ham, with Joao Felix and Ruben Loftus-Cheek brought into the team by manager Graham Potter.

The 24-year-old was brought on as a second half subsitute.

Chelsea’s significant invesetment has heightened competition for places, with Conor Gallagher, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Denis Zakaria and Carney Chukwuemeka also among the midfield options that could be called upon.

Liverpool have been viewed as a potential suitor for Mount, although the Anfield club are believed to be prioritising summer moves for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham and Wolves’ Matheus Nunes.

Juventus have also been linked with the England international.

Mount has played 189 times for Chelsea since breaking into the first team set-up, scoring 33 goals for the club.

He was part of Chelsea’s Champions League winning side in 2021 and has played for England in two major tournaments.

Mount has been named as the club’s player of the year in the last two seasons.
