Malo Gusto has explained the reason he decided to join Chelsea is because they’re a “very big club” and he’s a fan of the project at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s newest recruit completed a transfer from Lyon to west London on Sunday morning.
Graham Potter’s side have signed Gusto on a £26.3million deal, with the player completing the rest of the season on loan with Lyon before linking up with the Blues squad in the summer.
The 19-year-old right-back is an emerging star in Ligue 1 enjoying regular minutes, so his development will continue over the next few months in France.
Speaking for the first time since his Chelsea arrival, Gusto has given an insight into himself as a player.
Also, the French teenager explains why he decided to join the Blues.
“I play right-back. I’m a fast player, a crosser and box to box,” Gusto said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.
“I like the city and I’m really, really happy to come here.
“I chose Chelsea because it’s a very big club and I very like the project.”
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Chelsea weren’t the only team in for Gusto’s signature this month, but he’s another to be tempted by the exciting things building at the Bridge.
A serious rival to Reece James in the right-back position has been long overdue.
It’s a shame Gusto won’t be integrated into the Chelsea group during the second half of the season because he’s needed.
However, it looks like another fantastic piece of business from the Blues by adding a really talented youngster in a position that needed a fresh face.
